The ICRC Delegation in Iran hosted the 6th round of International ‘Health Emergencies in Large Populations (HELP)’ course together with the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) and Tehran University, School of Public Health from 9 to 20 November 2019 in Tehran.

The HELP course is a multidisciplinary training course for managing humanitarian operations in disasters, conflicts and other crises.

While placing an emphasis on managing health problems in emergencies, the 2-week course also presented a range of topics including Project Management Cycle, Communication in Crisis, Public Health Engineering and Humanitarian Coordination to its 24 participants from 9 different countries, who were professionals from the Health, Water and Sanitation, Economic Security and Protection sectors. Participants came not only from the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement but also from some International NGOs and UN agencies as well as students from several Iranian Universities.

The course was offered in the form of a mixture of lectures, discussions and group works and fostered a collaborative learning environment which allowed participants to share their experiences. This course seeks to provide participants with the set of skills enabling them to make informed decisions when faced with natural or manmade emergencies in the field.

The HELP course is currently offered in 9 different sites around the world. For further information please consult the HELP home page, here.
