The ICRC and the IRCS are both members of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement; they have developed a strong partnership and work closely together toward achieving common goals. A wide range of the ICRC’s programs and activities in Iran are carried out in partnership with IRCS. The two partners also work with a local NGO in a tripartite project to provide primary health and physical rehabilitation services, mental health, and hygiene and First Aid education to vulnerable populations in suburbs of Mashhad, Khorasan Razavi Province.

The cooperation has expanded over the years and a five-year Partnership Framework Agreement was renewed in 2024, that defines the main areas of cooperation between the two partners including: Health, Physical Rehabilitation, promotion of International Humanitarian Law (IHL), Protecting Family Links (PFL) & Dignified Management of Human Remains, Communication & Promotion of Humanitarian Values, Health Care in Danger, Risk Awareness and Safe Behaviour, Strengthening the Movement Coordination and Positioning, and Logistics.

In 2024, the ICRC:

  • Signed a Memorandum of Understanding for another round of five years as of 2024 to 2029 to define common partnership goals in the humanitarian field.
  • Facilitated and strengthened ongoing exchanges between the IRCS and RCRC Movement partners at both regional and international levels.
  • Organized a Red Cross-Red Crescent Orientation workshop in Tehran for the IRCS senior management, in collaboration with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), to enhance understanding of Movement principles and strengthen leadership capacities.
  • Organized the 2nd edition of “The Repatriation Flight Photo Exhibition” jointly with the IRCS at the IRCS Peace Museum, displaying joint humanitarian response on the repatriation of Prisoners of War of the Iran-Iraq war.
  • Supported the promotion of main elements and principles of Community Engagement and Accountability (CEA) in enhancing the quality of services to beneficiaries.
