Each year, armed conflict disrupts millions of lives. The ICRC provides water in conflict zones and creates or maintains a sustainable living environment. Ultimately, this work reduces death and suffering due to damage to infrastructure or disruption to water supplies.

Around the world, the ICRC’s water and habitat work improves the lives of millions. 30 million in 2015, to be exact.

Of course, we save lives by delivering water in conflicts and other emergencies. But we go further. We train professionals and communities to maintain vital water infrastructure, so that they have clean, safe water not just today, but for years to come. As well as keeping the water flowing, we create jobs. And few jobs can be more rewarding than ensuring a community has water.
