Promoting respect for IHL during times of conflict requires its dissemination and awareness-raising during peacetime. To this end, the ICRC works closely with the Iranian National Committee on Humanitarian Law (NCHL), the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), and other relevant bodies in the Islamic Republic of Iran to better promote understanding of the IHL.

The ICRC supports national authorities, academic institutions and media professionals in Iran in raising awareness and understanding of IHL. This includes organizing workshops, conferences, roundtables, and training sessions. The ICRC also facilitates the participation of Iranian experts and officials in regional and international events focused on IHL promotion and implementation.

Additionally, the ICRC translates and publishes different academic and reference books and articles with the support of NCHL in the field of IHL to disseminate this knowledge more widely. The ICRC’s specialized IHL library serves as a valuable resource for students and researchers in humanitarian law.

To strengthen the knowledge and advocacy skills of future legal professionals in International Humanitarian Law, the ICRC co-organizes the National Henry Dunant Memorial Moot Court Competition in collaboration with NCHL and Iranian Association for United Nations Studies (IAUNS), bringing together experts and practitioners in the field and providing participating teams with an opportunity to apply their knowledge in a practical setting.

In support of the continued professional development of Iranian officials on International Humanitarian Law, the ICRC facilitates their participation in regional and international workshops and conferences on IHL-related themes.
